Thighplasty (Thigh Lift) Cost in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley
My surgical fee for thighplasty (thigh lift) after significant weight loss is $13,990. That fee is for the operation I most commonly perform: a full thighplasty with a T shaped incision, with VASER liposuction (ultrasound assisted lipectomy) built into the procedure rather than added as an extra. The anaesthetist and Maitland Private Hospital bill separately, so the total for an uninsured patient is usually around $27,000, and the out of pocket cost for a patient with Medicare and health fund cover is usually around $16,000. A vertical thighplasty or an isolated limited thighplasty involves less operating time and is quoted lower. Your individual quote follows consultation.

What my fee includes
My surgical fee covers more than the time in theatre. Included in the $13,990 are:
Your first consultation
Which usually runs for about an hour
A second consultation at no cost
Where I go through your blood results with you. This can be done remotely if you live outside the Hunter
2 weeks of intense follow-up straight after surgery
Then reviews at 4 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months
Your compression garment
Worn for 4 weeks full-time and then 2 weeks during the day
Daily rounds while you are in hospital at Maitland Private
There is no separate charge for any of these visits. If a concern comes up between scheduled reviews, you see me, not an extra invoice.
What makes up your total cost
Three separate parties bill for a thighplasty (thigh lift), and your written quote itemises each of them.
My surgical fee
$13,990 for a full thighplasty with a T shaped incision (a horizontal incision in the groin crease and a vertical incision down the inner thigh) combined with VASER liposuction (ultrasound assisted lipectomy). The liposuction is part of how I do this operation, not an optional extra, so it is built into the fee rather than added on top.
Anaesthetist’s fee
Billed separately. The operation takes about 4 hours under general anaesthetic, and the anaesthetist bills for the surgical time plus about an hour for induction and recovery. Your anaesthetic consultation is by phone in most cases; the airway and physical assessment happen on the morning of surgery.
Hospital and theatre fees at Maitland Private
Billed separately by the hospital. This covers theatre time and 1 night on the ward. Most thighplasty patients go home the following day.
Drains
Usually none for thighplasty, so there is no drain-related cost or extra ward time for drain management.
What changes the quote
A vertical thighplasty (inner thigh incision only) or an isolated limited thighplasty (groin crease incision only) takes less theatre time and is quoted lower on all 3 components. The figures on this page are for patients who have lost their weight and are in the normal BMI range; more tissue means more theatre time and a higher quote.
Medicare and health funds
After significant weight loss, Medicare item 30169 may apply to thighplasty (thigh lift). Whether you meet the criteria is something I assess at consultation, not something you can work out from a checklist beforehand. If an item number applies, your health fund contribution depends on your policy and its level of cover.
