Fleur de Lis Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) Cost in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley
The total cost of a Fleur de Lis abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) after significant weight loss with me starts from $16,500 out of pocket if you have eligible private hospital cover and meet the Medicare criteria, and from $30,000 if you are uninsured. Both figures cover my surgical fee, the anaesthetist’s fee, hospital and theatre fees at Maitland Private Hospital including your stay, your compression garment and all follow-up. They are starting figures for the least complex cases. Within that total, my surgical fee starts from $14,990. Your individual quote follows consultation.
Several factors move the quote above the starting figure. The extent of vertical and horizontal skin excess, VASER liposuction (suction assisted lipectomy) performed at the same time, hernia repair, an upper abdominal excision where the laxity pattern calls for a dual vector abdominoplasty, and a higher BMI all add operating time and change the fee. Which Medicare item number applies also changes what you pay out of pocket.

I am a FRACS Specialist Surgeon and I operate at Maitland Private Hospital in the Hunter Valley. My patients come from Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens, the Central Coast and across regional NSW.
This page covers costs after significant weight loss. If you are considering abdominoplasty after pregnancy, the costs are covered separately in my post pregnancy abdominoplasty cost guide.

What my fee includes
My surgical fee covers more than the operation itself. It includes:
Your second consultation, at no cost
Where I review your blood results and finalise the surgical plan. This can be done remotely if you live outside the Hunter Valley.
All post-operative follow-up
The first 2 weeks after surgery involve frequent contact with my team, then I review you at 4 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months. None of these visits are billed separately.
Your compression garment
Nothing in this list is added to your quote later.

What makes up your total cost
A Fleur de Lis abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) removes skin in 2 directions, with a horizontal incision low on the abdomen and a vertical incision up the midline. That makes it a longer operation than a standard or extended abdominoplasty, and most of the fees below scale with operating time.
My surgical fee
From $14,990. The final figure depends on the extent of excision and any adjuncts.
Surgical assistant
I operate with an assistant. Their fee is billed separately and is a proportion of my fee.
Anaesthetist’s fee
Billed separately by the anaesthetist. Your anaesthetic consultation is by phone in most cases, with examination on the day of surgery. Fleur de Lis abdominoplasty usually takes 4 hours or longer, and the anaesthetist bills for that time plus their pre and post-operative care.
Hospital and theatre fees at Maitland Private
Billed by the hospital. Most Fleur de Lis patients stay 2 to 4 nights. Hospital cover changes this figure more than any other.
Drains
I use 2 closed suction drains exiting at the lateral hips. These are part of the hospital admission rather than a separate charge.
Adjuncts that change the quote
VASER liposuction (suction assisted lipectomy), hernia repair and an upper abdominal excision (dual vector abdominoplasty) each add operating time.
Pathology, medications and any additional garments are billed by other providers and sit outside my quote.
Medicare and health funds
Medicare item number 30177 may apply to a Fleur de Lis abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) after significant weight loss. Whether it applies to you is assessed at consultation, not beforehand. When an item number applies, the operation is GST-free and your health fund can contribute to the hospital and surgical fees. How much your fund contributes depends on your policy and its clinical categories.
Revision surgery, if ever needed, is charged depending on your insurance position; this is covered in the full cost guide.
The full guide walks through item 30177, the eligibility criteria, health fund tiers and worked examples for this operation.

Your next step

A GP referral is required before your consultation. I consult at my rooms in Lorn, Maitland, and telehealth is available for the first consultation if you live in regional NSW. At that consultation I examine your skin excess pattern, confirm whether a Fleur de Lis abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is the right operation, and my patient coordinators then prepare your written quote.
