Neck Lift (Cervicoplasty) Cost in Newcastle NSW
In my practice, a neck lift (cervicoplasty) is not a separate operation from a facelift (rhytidectomy). It is a deep plane facelift (rhytidectomy) carried down into the neck, with the incision extended behind the ear so the skin and platysma of the neck are repositioned along with the face. Where the platysma has separated in the midline, I add a platysmaplasty through a short incision under the chin in the same operation. Those are the 2 versions I quote, and they carry different figures.
A neck lift (cervicoplasty) is cosmetic surgery. There is no Medicare item number, no health fund contribution, and 10% GST applies to every part of the cost.
My surgical fee starts at $19,778 including GST for a neck lift (cervicoplasty) alone. With a midline platysmaplasty added, my fee is $23,067 including GST. That is my fee only. The anaesthetist and Maitland Private Hospital bill separately and set their own charges. The total comes to approximately $38,000 including GST for the neck lift (cervicoplasty) alone, and approximately $44,000 including GST with the platysmaplasty, because the second version adds an hour of theatre and anaesthetic time. No Medicare or health fund contribution applies to either figure. You receive an individual written quote after consultation. These figures are for a first operation on the face and neck in a patient with a normal BMI, no other procedures in the same operation, and a day stay at Maitland Private Hospital.

What my fee includes
A second consultation before surgery at no cost
Including review of your pre-operative blood results. This can be done remotely if you live outside the Hunter.
All follow-up
In the first 2 weeks after a neck lift (cervicoplasty) I see you closely, with nursing and dressing review 2 to 3 times a week. After that I review you at 4 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months.
A face and neck support band
Supplied by the practice and worn as directed after surgery.
LED light therapy
Sessions at the practice during your early recovery.
What makes up your total cost
Your total is made up of 3 separate bills, plus anything added to the operation at consultation.

The anaesthetist
A neck lift (cervicoplasty) is performed under general anaesthesia. The anaesthetist bills separately, based on the length of the operation plus time in recovery. Your anaesthetic consultation is by phone in most cases, with the physical assessment on the day of surgery.
Maitland Private Hospital
Theatre time and your day stay. An overnight stay is available if that suits your circumstances, charged separately by the hospital.
Consumables
Surgical consumables used in theatre, billed by the hospital.
Two things change the quote:
- VASER (ultrasound-assisted liposuction) of the neck can be added where there is fat above the platysma that repositioning alone will not remove. It adds theatre time and a separate fee, quoted individually.
- Work beneath the platysma, such as removal of subplatysmal fat, is a different operation and is quoted on its own. See the deep neck lift (cervicoplasty) cost page.
Medicare and health funds
There is no Medicare item number for a neck lift (cervicoplasty). It is cosmetic surgery, so Medicare pays no rebate, your health fund makes no contribution to the hospital or anaesthetist, and 10% GST is added to my fee, the anaesthetist’s fee and the hospital’s charges. Maitland Private Hospital also charges a higher rate for cosmetic theatre time than for procedures with an item number.
If a revision is needed in the first 12 months after surgery, my revision policy applies. I explain it at consultation and it is set out in your written quote.
Neck liposuction is a different operation. VASER (ultrasound-assisted liposuction) of the neck removes fat sitting above the platysma in patients whose skin still has good tone. A neck lift (cervicoplasty) repositions the skin and platysma of the neck, with a platysmaplasty added where it is needed.
