Pubic Lift (Monsplasty) Cost in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley
My surgical fee for a pubic lift (monsplasty) after significant weight loss starts at $5,990 for the least complex cases. The anaesthetist and Maitland Private Hospital bill separately. For a day stay operation where MBS item 30166 applies, the approximate total out of pocket is around $6,500 with private hospital cover and around $12,500 without it. Your individual quote follows consultation, once I have examined you and know the extent of the work needed.
Because the mons pubis is a small area, some patients do not meet the criteria for an MBS item number and the operation is treated as cosmetic. In that case 10% GST is added to my surgical fee, so it starts at $6,589, GST also applies to the anaesthetist and hospital fees, and the hospital charges a higher rate for cosmetic theatre time. The approximate total is around $14,500 including GST, with no Medicare or health fund contribution.

I am Dr Bernard Beldholm, FRACS Specialist Surgeon. I operate at Maitland Private Hospital and see patients from Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens, the Central Coast and regional NSW.

What my fee includes
My surgical fee covers more than the time in theatre. It includes:
Your second consultation at no cost
Where I review your blood results and confirm the surgical plan. This can be done remotely.
All follow-up after surgery
You have 2 weeks of intense follow-up straight after the operation, then reviews at 4 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months. None of these attract a further fee.
Your compression garment
What makes up your total cost
A pubic lift (monsplasty) on its own is a day stay operation under general anaesthetic, usually around 1.5 hours in theatre. Your total is made up of:
My surgical fee
From $5,990 where MBS item 30166 applies, or from $6,589 including GST where the operation is cosmetic. The fee moves with the extent of the work: liposuction (suction assisted lipectomy) of the mons alone sits at the lower end, and removal of excess skin with a lift of the mons pubis sits higher.
Anaesthetist’s fee
Billed separately by the anaesthetist. Your anaesthetic consultation is by phone in most cases.
Hospital and theatre fees at Maitland Private
Charged for theatre time and a day admission. No overnight stay is planned for an isolated pubic lift (monsplasty), and no drains are used.
Combination with abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
Where a patient is suited to it, the mons pubis can be treated in the same operation as an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). The pubic lift (monsplasty) is then quoted as part of that operation rather than as a separate fee, and a different MBS item applies. Whether combining is appropriate for you, or whether the operations are better done separately, is decided at consultation.

Medicare and health funds
MBS item 30166 may apply to an isolated pubic lift (monsplasty) after significant weight loss. When the operation is performed with an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), item 30177 applies instead. Eligibility is assessed at consultation, and where no item applies the operation is cosmetic with no Medicare or health fund contribution. Where an item does apply, your health fund contribution depends on your policy and level of hospital cover.
Revision surgery, if ever needed, is charged depending on your insurance position; this is covered in the full cost guide.

Your next step

A GP referral is needed before your consultation. I consult at Maitland, and telehealth is available for patients travelling from regional NSW. At consultation I examine the mons pubis, assess whether an MBS item applies, and give you a written quote setting out my fee, the anaesthetist’s estimate and the hospital estimate.
