Liposuction (suction assisted lipectomy) of the thighs with me costs between $11,500 and $21,500 in total, depending on how much of the thigh is treated. The lower figure is a typical case for inner thigh fat alone, sometimes described as treating “the gap”: both legs, performed with VASER (ultrasound assisted lipectomy), around 1 hour of operating time, under general anaesthesia as a day procedure at Maitland Private Hospital, with no drains. The upper figure is a typical case for circumferential thigh fat involving the inner, outer and front of both thighs: the same technique and setting, around 3 hours of operating time. Each figure is the sum of my surgeon fee, the specialist anaesthetist fee, the hospital theatre and day stay charges and the consumables used on the day, with GST added to the total. These are not starting prices. They are totals for those cases.

Your written quote follows examination of your thighs at consultation and states your fixed surgeon fee alongside the estimated anaesthetist and hospital charges for your operating time.

What My Surgeon Fee Includes
My surgeon fee for liposuction (suction assisted lipectomy) of the thighs is $4,500 excluding GST ($4,950 including GST) for inner thigh treatment of both legs, and $8,000 excluding GST ($8,800 including GST) for circumferential treatment of both thighs. The fee is fixed once your written quote is issued, and it covers more than the operation itself:
The operation
I perform the entire procedure myself with VASER (ultrasound assisted lipectomy) at Maitland Private Hospital.
Your first compression garment
A thigh-length compression garment is fitted in theatre and included in the fee. You wear it full time for 4 weeks, then half time for a further 2 weeks.
Healite II LED therapy
Post-operative LED sessions at my rooms are included to support your recovery.
Your follow-up schedule
Reviews are intensive through the first 2 weeks after surgery, then at 4 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months. All of these are included; you are not billed per visit.
A second consultation at no cost
If you need a further consultation before deciding, it is included.
Revision surgery is not included in the fee. If a revision is ever needed, it is assessed at consultation and charged according to your insurance position within 12 months of surgery.
The Four Components of Your Total
Every quote I issue for liposuction (suction assisted lipectomy) of the thighs is built from the same four components: my surgeon fee, the specialist anaesthetist fee, the hospital charges and the consumables used on the day. The two cases below show how those components come together at each end of the range.
Case one: inner thigh fat, both legs, around 1 hour

- Hospital charges: approximately $7,000, covering theatre time and your day stay at Maitland Private Hospital
- Consumables: approximately $1,500, covering the items used during your procedure
- Total with GST: approximately $21,500
The surgeon fee is the only component I control, and it is fixed in your written quote. The anaesthetist and hospital bill you separately, and their figures move with operating time, which is why the difference between these two cases is so large. Both operations are performed under general anaesthesia with no drains, and you go home the same day.
What Moves the Figure
The thigh has several distinct fat zones: the inner (medial) thigh, the outer (lateral) thigh, the front (anterior) thigh, the banana roll just below the buttock crease and the inner knee. The two cases on this page mark the ends of the range, and most quotes fall somewhere between them. These are the variables that set where yours lands:
Which zones are treated
Inner thigh alone sits at the bottom of the range. Each additional zone adds operating time, and the anaesthetist and hospital components move with it. A plan that adds the banana roll or knees to the inner thigh sits between the two published cases.
Operating time
Time is the single largest driver. The anaesthetist bills on time and the theatre is charged on time, so an operation that runs longer than estimated will move the final anaesthetist and hospital figures.
Technique
The published cases assume VASER (ultrasound assisted lipectomy), which is my preferred technique for the thighs. If standard liposuction (suction assisted lipectomy) is used for your case, this is stated as a variable in your quote.
Overnight stay
Both cases assume a day procedure. If an overnight stay is planned or becomes necessary, the hospital charges this at its own rate, and it appears in your quote as a separate line.
Skin quality
Liposuction (suction assisted lipectomy) removes fat; it does not tighten loose skin. If you have significant thigh skin laxity, the appropriate operation may be a thighplasty (thigh lift), which is a different procedure with its own quote. I will tell you this plainly at consultation rather than performing an operation that would make laxity worse.
Staged sessions
If your plan involves the thighs alongside other areas, the work may be split across more than one session, each quoted on its own operating time.

Medicare, Health Funds and GST
Liposuction (suction assisted lipectomy) of the thighs performed for cosmetic reasons has no Medicare item number. There is no Medicare rebate on any component of the total, and because private health insurance hospital cover operates through item numbers, your health fund does not contribute to the hospital charges either. GST applies to every component: the surgeon fee, the anaesthetist fee, the hospital charges and the consumables. The totals on this page include it.
A Note on Lipoedema
The thighs are the classic distribution for lipoedema, a chronic condition causing symmetrical, disproportionate leg fat that is often tender to pressure and bruises readily. Lipoedema is a medical condition, but it is classified as cosmetic for funding purposes because no Medicare item number exists for liposuction (suction assisted lipectomy) performed for lipoedema. That means no Medicare rebate, no health fund contribution and GST applies, regardless of the clinical basis for surgery. Your Steps to a Written Quote
Every session is performed at Maitland Private Hospital under general anaesthesia. Most standalone sessions are day surgery: you are admitted, treated and discharged the same day, and the hospital component of your quote reflects theatre time and a day stay. Where a longer session is planned, or where your health or circumstances warrant it, an overnight stay is arranged instead, and the hospital component of that session’s quote increases accordingly. Your written quote states which applies to each session, so there is no ambiguity on the day.
