Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) After Pregnancy Readiness Checklist

The timing, health and planning questions I go through at consultation for abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) after pregnancy.

Pregnancy stretches the abdominal skin and can separate the abdominal muscles. These are normal changes, and many women never need an operation for them. This checklist sets out the 18 items I go through with patients who are considering abdominoplasty after pregnancy, so you can see what is in place before you talk to your GP or to me. It does not decide whether surgery suits you. That is decided at consultation, after a GP referral.

What is inside

  • Timing: whether your family is complete, breastfeeding, and how long it has been since your last pregnancy
  • Health: weight stability, nicotine, medical conditions and medications, including blood thinners
  • Abdominal wall: muscle separation (diastasis recti) and previous abdominal surgery, including caesarean sections
  • Recovery plan: time off work, help at home, lifting children, driving, the hospital stay and the compression garment
  • Expectations and process: the risks, where the scar sits, the GP referral and the 2 consultations before a surgery date

The checklist is emailed, usually within a few minutes. Check junk if not received. A member of my team may call to confirm it arrived and answer questions about the consultation process. Occasional educational emails follow. Unsubscribe at any time. By requesting the checklist you confirm you are 18 or over. See our privacy policy.
