The cost of surgery in my practice is set out by operation. Every operation I perform at Maitland Private Hospital has its own cost page, and the cost pages are grouped into 6 areas. Choose the area below, then the operation you are considering.
Every cost page follows the same structure. It states my surgical fee, what that fee includes, what the anaesthetist and the hospital bill separately, and whether a Medicare item number may apply. This page has no figures on it; they sit on the page for each operation. Your own written quote follows your consultation.

Surgery after significant weight loss
Skin removal after weight loss through bariatric surgery, medication or lifestyle change: abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and its variants, belt lipectomy (body lift), brachioplasty (arm lift), thighplasty (thigh lift), bra line lipectomy (upper back lift), gluteal lipectomy (buttock lift), male chest surgery after weight loss and pubic lift (monsplasty).
Surgery after pregnancy
Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), extended abdominoplasty and limited abdominoplasty (mini tummy tuck), with the liposuction (suction assisted lipectomy) and breast operations performed after pregnancy.
Breast surgery
Breast augmentation (breast implants), breast lift (mastopexy), breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty), fat grafting to the breast, removal of breast implants (explant surgery) and removal and replacement of breast implants (implant exchange).
Gynaecomastia surgery (gyno surgery)
Male breast surgery priced by the BB grade I assign to each breast at consultation, from gland excision alone through to mastectomy with free nipple-areola graft.
Face and neck surgery
Facelift (rhytidectomy) techniques, neck lift (cervicoplasty), deep neck lift (cervicoplasty), platysmaplasty, direct excision of neck skin, upper blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery) and brow lift (browplasty).
Liposuction (suction assisted lipectomy)
VASER (ultrasound assisted lipectomy) by treatment area: neck, arms, abdomen, flanks, back, thighs, calves and ankles, and staged surgery for lipoedema.
If your operation could sit in more than one area
Each operation is listed under the area that sets its cost, and some patients will find theirs in a different place from the one they expect.
Loose chest skin in men after significant weight loss is priced under surgery after significant weight loss, not under gynaecomastia. Liposuction (suction assisted lipectomy) of the neck is priced under liposuction, and the face and neck cost page links to it. Fat grafting to the breast is priced under breast surgery, whether it is planned on its own or within an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) has separate cost pages after weight loss and after pregnancy, because the operation, the hospital stay and the Medicare position differ between the two.
How the costs work
Every operation involves 3 separate accounts: my surgical fee, the anaesthetist’s fee, and Maitland Private Hospital’s charges for theatre and your stay. My fee is fixed once your operation is planned. The anaesthetist and the hospital bill you directly and set their own charges, which is why each cost page states my fee as an exact figure and the total as an approximate one.
Where a Medicare item number applies and you meet its criteria, Medicare and your health fund contribute to the surgeon and anaesthetist fees, your hospital cover pays for theatre and your stay less any excess, and no GST applies. Where no item number applies, the operation is cosmetic: there is no Medicare or health fund contribution, and 10% GST applies to all 3 accounts. Whether an item number applies to you is assessed at consultation, not settled in advance.
What moves the quote is the extent of the operation, the time it takes in theatre, the number of nights in hospital, and whether more than 1 operation is performed in the same session. Each cost page names the components that change the figure for that operation.

You need a GP referral before your first consultation. I see patients at my rooms in Lorn, Maitland. For patients in regional NSW the first consultation can be by telehealth, with an in-person examination before any surgery is booked. The consultation takes about 1 hour, and a second consultation to go through your blood results and finalise the plan is included at no cost. After your consultation my rooms give you a written quote covering all 3 accounts.
