Is body contouring surgery right for you?

For patients with loose skin on their abdomen, breasts, arms or thighs, body contouring surgery may be an option. Dr Beldholm will discuss your areas of concern, medical history, and goals to determine if body contouring procedures such as an abdominoplasty, arm lift (Brachioplasty) or cosmetic breastwork are suitable for your needs. All it takes is a comprehensive consultation. From Medicare rebates to information about downtime after surgery, you may be surprised by what you learn.

Types of body contouring surgery

Through body contouring surgery, Dr Beldholm strives to help his patients achieve their goals. He has spent considerable time and energy learning the latest surgical techniques, such as VASER liposuction and liposuction-based abdominoplasties. He frequently performs abdominoplasty, breast lifts, arm lifts, breast reductions and gynaecomastia surgery. Over the years, he has fine-tuned his skills in the operating room.

Treat Medical Issues From Pregnancy or Major Weight Loss

Body Contouring Surgery After Pregnancy

During pregnancy, the abdominal muscles stretch as the belly expands. This can lead to muscle separation (diastasis recti), causing the tummy to “pooch out.” Excess skin and fat do not help matters. Some mums also develop sagging, deflated breasts (medically called ptosis). The good news is body contouring surgery can help the abdomen and breasts.

Mini Lipo-abdominoplasty

This addresses excess skin and fat below the navel only. It can also remove the small overhang of skin that droops over the C-section scar.

Full Lipo-abdominoplasty

In addition to tightening the skin, this operation removes loose skin and fat from the abdominal area as well as repairs separated muscles.

Aesthetic Breast Surgery

Breast lifts (Mastopexy), and breast implants (Breast Augmentation) are available to restore volume after pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Body Contouring Post Weight Loss

Large weight loss through bariatric surgery, diet or exercise may result in excess skin that remains long after reaching your goal weight.

In the last few years, Dr Beldholm has gone a step further by incorporating VASER liposuction into his body contouring operations. He has found that this technique leads to less bruising, a faster recovery and smoother results.(3,4,5) VASER liposuction is used as an integral part of several body contouring operations that Dr Beldholm performs including:

VASER Lipo-abdominoplasty

VASER Brachioplasty

VASER liposuction based inner thigh lift (thighplasty)

VASER liposuction adds an additional step to traditional liposuction. The VASER probe liquifies the fat making it easier to remove.

What does body contouring mean?

Body contouring typically involves several different procedures. Because no two patients are ever alike, they each have problem areas that are unique to them, Dr Beldholm makes sure that every procedure is individualised. Depending on the patient’s specific needs, any combination of the following procedures may be performed.

Abdominoplasty

A tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat on the abdomen and repairs the abdominal muscle.

Body Lift (Belt Lipectomy)

This procedure corrects sagging of the abdomen, buttocks and outer thighs.

Inner Thigh Lift (Thighplasty)

This procedure tightens the inner thighs by reducing excess skin and fat. This results in smoother skin and well-defined contours of the thighs.

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

This procedure tightens the underside of the arm to restore firmness, balance and symmetry.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

This procedure lifts breasts after pregnancy, ageing or massive weight loss.

For patients who express interest in body contouring, it’s important for them to know they may not necessarily need to undergo all of the above procedures. It is possible that the only surgeries they may need are the ones that address their specific surgery goals. Of course, Dr Beldholm is more than happy to help them choose the procedures that will best help them achieve the results they desire.
